October 2019 Athletes of the Month

11/13/2019

Twin Cities Marathon weekend is Minnesota’s premier running weekend and this year’s races, both the marathon and the 10 mile, did not disappoint. Danny Docherty finished in 3rd in just his second marathon ever, and his Team USA Minnesota teammate Dakotah Lindwurm finished as runner-up in what was also just her second marathon ever, showing us a glimpse of what will likely be very successful marathon careers for both Docherty and Lindwurm.

Danny Docherty, originally from St. Paul and Cretin-Derham Hall High School, made his way onto the Twin Cities Marathon podium when he finished 3rd in this year’s race in a nearly three minute PR of 2:15:55, earning him the honor of USATF Minnesota’s Male October Athlete of the Month. After making his marathon debut at the Houston Marathon earlier in 2019, where he finished 19th, Docherty raced Twin Cities Marathon as his last full-distance test before the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Team Trials in February. Docherty will be running the Houston Half Marathon in January 2020, and then will fully shift his focus to the Olympic Trials immediately following his race in Houston.

Team USA Minnesota teammate Dakotah Lindwurm also had a great performance at this year’s Twin Cities Marathon finishing 2nd in 2:32:49, a PR by more than a minute, earning her USATF Minnesota’s Womens October Athlete of the Month. Originally from St. Francis, Minnesota, Lindwurm also finished 4th at Grandma’s Marathon earlier this year in her marathon debut. Like Docherty, Lindwurm will also compete in the Houston Half Marathon in January 2020 before fully shifting her focus to the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in February.
